LOME, April 18 (Xinhua) -- The Confucius Institute of the University of Lome in Togo held celebrations on Friday to mark the United Nations Chinese Language Day, annually observed on April 20.
Chinese language teachers, local students, and enthusiasts of Chinese culture organized talent shows featuring activities such as Chinese song singing, traditional dancing, martial arts demonstrations, calligraphy, tea ceremony, and traditional Chinese outfits experience.
Raymond Nyanse, a 23-year-old student at the Confucius Institute, said he was fascinated by various cultural experiences, adding that Chinese language learning could open up more possibilities for his future career path.
Maman Aboudou, Togolese director of the Confucius Institute of the University of Lome, said that Chinese culture is profound and full of wisdom, and encouraged students and enthusiasts to take the opportunity of the Chinese Language Day celebrations to explore Chinese culture.
Huang Chang, a Chinese language teacher at the Confucius Institute, told Xinhua that more than 400 Togolese students are currently enrolled in Chinese language programs at the institute.
He said that learning Chinese helps foster stronger cultural connections, as many students have developed talents such as singing and public speaking through their Chinese language studies. ■
