LIBREVILLE, April 18 (Xinhua) -- The new provisional "consolidated" results have indicated that Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema secured 94.85 percent of the votes in Gabon's presidential election, up from the previously announced 90.35 percent, Interior Minister Hermann Immongault said on Friday.
This increase followed a double verification process of the election results for the eight candidates in the election held on April 12, the minister explained in a statement.
Alain Claude Bilie By Nze, former prime minister under former President Ali Bongo, also saw a slight upward revision in his result, an increase from 3.02 percent to 3.11 percent.
Immongault clarified that the initial results released on April 13 contained "calculation errors" resulting in a discrepancy of 4.82 percent, which was rectified following "the compilation and double cross-checking" of physical tally sheets from all polling stations across the national territory and abroad.
According to the interior minister, these consolidated results will be forwarded to the Transitional Constitutional Court for the announcement of the final results within eight clear days.
The elected president will be sworn in following the proclamation of the final results by the Constitutional Court. ■
